Internal Void's "Unearthed" is one of my very favorite doom albums. Love that band.

OK SKULLCRUSHER! No need to repeat yerself!! :0) Well i dont think we sucked at all, first couple recordings were abit sketchy i admit but from third demo onwards i think we were a fucking damn good band. But i have respect for your no BS approach to critiscm just not my style personally. And well i agree i personally cant see what the big fuss is about Reverend..seems if you play one chord or two as slow as possible then you are hailed as new "TRUE DOOM METAL" Saviours..but i digress...they are good at what they do ,but overhyped....if i must mention some other overhyped bands i d have to mention Warning,The lamp of Thoth ...again one or two chords, playing slow just for sake of it,but the "true" doom metallers(ahem...) seem to be hailing these bands as new gods of doom... the vocals on new Warning are very disappointing from what i have heard.I think ISOLE from Sweden kick all three bands asses!!.But how you can call Internal Void crap is just mesmerizing!!!!! "Standing on the Sun" is a seminal Doom metal-rock album!!!!

and Solstice were a killer Doom metal band until they started wanting to be Manowar *cough*//!!! "Lamentations" is a damn fine album so was the ep that followed but then they ...went all pretentious with a elitist self indulgent egotistical we are more metal than thou attitude.

The vocals on WARNING's "Watching from a Distance" are tremendous. Some of the most emotional and sorrowful vocals I've ever heard.

Butch what i have heard from that cd are so sucking...capable of ALOT more.In my opinion i have heard WAY more emotional and sorrowful vocals than that....the two songs i heard i was like "gahhh whats going on with his vocals",sounded out of tune to me...sorrowful enough if you wanna slit your wrists to it.But...i personally heard ALOT more emotion in your vocals Butch. And you are a vocalist i have alot of respect for and i listen to last three Penance albums regulary, not kissing your ass but you have a way better and more emotive voice than him.

Hey Kat I appreciate that immensely. My ego knows no bounds and is never fully sated so every kind word is talen in and digested fully LOL That being said there is just something about the vocals that I like. Some of my favorite singers are not great technical guys there is just a certain joo-no-say-kwa about them. Such are the vocals on The Warning's latest. One of my tope 5 vocal performances of the past year methinks.

Well that was coming from one vocalist to another, being a vocalist myself i hear ALOT of things in other peoples vocals, and you have a great style..and very catchy vocal lines too which i personally like/look for in other vocalists.I like to think i did the same myself on last three Blessed Realm recordings, well i tried to do vocals in that style.catchy and memorable, and one last three demos i think i achieved that (if anyone wants to dispute that go to www.myspace.com/blessedrealmuk :0P.And you had that hands down i still get goosebumps listening to "dead already" chorus esp!!!!! and "the innocent"!!! i love brians and lees vocals too in penance though but last 3 cds were great shit!!!!! :0) i dunno i was just expecting more than i what i heard from last Warning..abit too droney and too much warbling for my liking!!!!

also to skullcrusher i havent been self defamatory about my ex band...i can see flaws and criticise my own music/vocals as i please...i aint hung up about doing that,no band is perfect...especially in its formative years. There issome great songs on our first two demos but we didnt really get anything going properly until the third demo...i havent heard any other doom band do such a great rip of off "black sabbath" as we did on "black hole" (third demo return to zero" im proud of that!!!! and asfar as my vocals go i got compared to alot of great vocalists(from wino to zakk wylde to ian gillan to pepper keenan etc..not being an ego freak just setting ya str8 on a coupla points to do with the band which you think so sucks! and some of our peers really liked our music/vocals so therefore i think we achieved ALOT in that respect,we never got to do a full album but it wouldhave happened sooner or later...we didnt get a chance to fulfill our potential but i think we left asignificant mark on the doom scene...alot of people seem to remember us for good or bad or whatever reasons...so to me that is good for a band to have made such an impact without EVER releasing a full length cd....so im chuffed thanks!!!!

Alright, Kat, love. Keep your wig on. I only said that I thought Blessed Realm sucked - and that was before I even knew you were in the band. God, you really do seem to have a chip on your shoulder.
I can't agree about Solstice or Warning either. The new Warning cd is just about perfect - and I thought the first album they released (can't remember the title) was average at best, and Solstice to my ears never sounded like they wanted to be Manowar. Anyway, all things said, I have some old zines where I'm sure you are singing praises of those two bands amongst others. What made you change your mind?
And back to the thread, two other rubbish bands to add to the list would be Memory Garden and Thunderstorm. Terrible.

You started this thred Skullcrusher-so that is a chip on your shoulder right there honey!!! Yes i thought the Warning demos were killer and also the early Solstice material but the first Warning album wasnt anything special, same goes for the 2nd Solstice album...one great song "the sleeping tyrant" but it didnt do a great deal for me "Lamentations was far superior in my humble opinon!!!! I have heard a few songs of 2nd Warning and i really cant see what all the fuss is about,Pat is warbling waaaay to much..there is vibrato used in sensible amounts and vibrato/warbling used way too much and excessively....there only a few vocalists that could ever get away with utilising vibrato excessively and Messiah Marcolin and King Diamond are a couple of em but they do it with abit of class.Vibrato should only be used in certain places of vocal lines and before you say "ohh what are you talking about" Well i used vibrato alot but used it when it felt right and just for the sake of it,i NEVER forced it...which is what it seems on the new Warning...Vibrato if used in the right places is VERY effective but if used too much can become grating and annoying..Granted not every vocalist has the ability to do Vibrato(or falsetto for that matter)...listen to Forbidden's first 2 albums that is a CLASSIC piece of vibrato vocals and fucking awesome!!!! Not overused but the right balance so i do respect Pat as a vocalist for having that ability but so do i and i never overdid it...from what i heard in my opinion it is way overused on new warning cd...and...personally i find it quite dull..needs more variation.period.

Russ from Forbidden would make an AMAZING Doom vocalist by the way..his falsetto and vibrato is KILLER Plus he know when to put abit of balls into it and go more aggressive, dirty and harder with his vocals .Doom isnt all about playing as slow morose, depressive etc as possible and just going "WOOOOOAAAAAAAAAAAHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH" "waaaaarbbbbbbbbbbblllllllllloaaaaahhhhh" all the way through a song. Black Sabbath were the Masters of this style of music but they knew when to ROCK OUT and give it some bluesy, groovin, ballsy Gritty HEAVINESS!!!!!!Which to me that is what Doom is all about..one minute you can have a slow as hell song..next song is more uptempo and so on and so forth but...even the slowest classic Doom bands knew when the right time was to kick it into gear and give it some energy instead of sounding like lethargic suicidal choir boys.all the way through a song. And there is alot of killer Doom bands around thesedays that know how to do that too ,Isole are an amazing band in my opinion...one example.
